COVID-19: Hon. Nwafor Distributes Food Items to Abba Community- Insists on Adherence to them health tips

As the stay-at-home order resulting from the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic continues to take effect, well-meaning individuals and organizations in Anambra State have continued to assist the indigent through donations of food items and cash, to help cushion the effects of the situation.

One of such gestures recently came from Hon. Nwafor Christian, an illustrious son of Abba Community in Dunukofia L.G.A. of Anambra State, who on Wednesday, April 22, donated bags of rice, cartons of noodles, tubers of yam, chicken and a cow, among other relief materials to his community and other neighbouring villages around.

Beneficiaries who were drawn from all corners of Abba town and its suburbs, among which were women, men and children, were spotted dancing home after receiving the various food items.

Presenting the food items, as well as other relief materials like sanitizers, hand gloves and facial masks, to the people, the benefactor, Hon. Chris Nwafor, said his gesture was driven by the dire situation in the land, hence his decision to cushion the effects of the extended lockdown aimed at containing the spread of the COVID-19.

He pleaded with them to adhere to the health tips provided by the World Health Organisation, while he urged government at state and federal levels to roll out more measures to better the effects of the lockdown on the people, especially the less privileged.

One of the benefactor’s allies and human rights activist, Bar. Olisemeka Chikwendu, who assisted with the distribution, noted that the items were distributed to help reduce hardship resulting from the pandemic and called on other affluent members of the community to help in whichever way they could in order to alleviate the sufferings of the indigent in the community.

While receiving the items, some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Fides, including Mr. Kendo Nwagu and Angela Obiedibo, expressed gratitude to Hon. Chris Nwafor, for having the interest of the people at heart, commending him for always remembering the poor at all times.

In their separate speeches, they pointed out that it was important that the items got to the people directly as other relief materials sent to the community were not distributed amicably.

Speaking to newsmen, a Nollywood actor, Hon. A.B. Omalicha, commended the efforts of well meaning individuals in Anambra State for ensuring that the indigent never went hungry. He also thanked the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, for all the measures put in place to curtail the spread of the virus in the state and for the stimulus packages given to ndi Anambra to cushion the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

He advised Anambrarians to always adhere to the directives of the government to avoid contracting COVID-19.
