COMMUNAL CLASH: AWKA NORTH LAWMAKER INAUGURATES RECONCILIATION PEACE COMMITTEE

The quest for a lasting peace among Communities in Awka North Local Government Area, has received a boost with the inuaguration of a reconciliation peace committee, to nip the crisis in the bud and forestall future occurrences.
Hon. John Nwokoye, the lawmaker representing Awka North at the Anambra State House of Assembly, yesterday, 9 June 2020, inaugurated a 10-man  Reconciliation Peace Committee, made up reputable clergy men, drawn from the 10 Communities in the Constituency, to explore the remote and immediate causes of the crisis and proffer measures that will promote peaceful co-existence in Awka North.
Hon John Nwokoye, while inaugurating the Committee, stressed the need for members of the Committee to exhibit high degree of integrity in the discharge of their assignment.
The Committee has Rev. Fr. Attansey Mathew from Isuaniocha as the Chairman and Ven. Nnonyelu David, from Mgbakwu, as the Secretary.
Other members include; Rev Fr. Onyekwelu Raphael from Amansea, Ven. Wilson E. Anowia from Urum, Rev. Fr. Ugonwa Theophilus from Achalla, Ag. Ven. C.A.C Chinwuko from Ugbene, Rev. Solomon Chinemeze from Ugbenu, Rev. Fr. Bernard Aniebene from Ebenebe, Canon Nwekeoti Obele from Awba Ofemili, and Catechist Ifejika Uchenna from Amanuke.
The Committee also have; HRM Igwe Ezebuilo Chijindu Alphonsus, HRM Igwe Chris Nnaegbuna, Hon Barr G.N Afah, Arch Bishop Muozie Egbuna, and Rev. GodsPower Anaso, as   Ex-Officio Members.
According to Hon John Nwokoye, the selected distinguished religious leaders were chosen based on their political neutrality, and they represent a body that is unbiased and will never be seen to take side on the face of conflict.
“It is imperative for us to ensure peaceful co-existence among ourselves, devoid of rancour and restiveness, which might plunge our communities into unnessary crisis and chaos.
“In view of this, I inaugurate this committee and charge committee members to be thorough in this new assignment and ensure that lasting peace is restored in the affected communities and in Awka North at large.” he said.
The DG More Money Campaign Organisation, High Chief ANC Onwelukwue, in the same vein, enjoined the Committee to restore peace in all the warring communities in Awka North LGA.
Recall that Hon. John Nwokoye, last two weeks, during plenary,  in a matter of  urgent public importance, unequivocally called on the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano to intervene and urgently setup a panel of enquiry to investigate Achalla/Urum communal crisis.
The proactive measures taken so far by Hon John Nwokoye since the beginning of this crisis, are seen by the good people Awka North as laudable and very commendable.
The Chairman of the Committee, Rev Fr Attansey Mathew, lauded Hon. John Nwokoye efforts in bringing lasting peace, not just only in Achalla and Urum, but the entire Awka North.
He promised that members of the Committee will work as a team without party or individual interest for the restoration of peace, unity and the development of Awka North.
