The Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency, ANCSDA, has called on Ndi Anambra to liaise with them in order to tackle poverty and enhance sustainable human development services in rural communities through social development projects.
The General Manager/CEO of ANCSDA, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu, made this call on Thursday, 29th August 2019 during a Press conference at the National Light Newspaper Hall, Awka.
The Agency which came into being March 9, 2009 through a law enacted by the Anambra State House of Assembly is charged with the function of improving the socio-economic conditions of the populace at the grassroots level by promoting prompt delivery of services geared towards poverty reduction in the state.
Speaking during the conference, The MD/CEO of ANCSDA, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu, noted that the Agency was currently implementing the World Bank assisted Community and Social Development Project- Additional Financing (CSDP-AF), complementing the Anambra State Government’s grassroot development programme ‘Choose Your Project Initiative’’. Noting that the Project is increasing access by the poor to improved social and natural resources infrastructure services in a sustainable manner throughout the State.
He explained further that they had employed a Community Driven Development (CDD) strategy, which empowers communities by giving them resources and authority to use them responsibly. The communities, he further put, would plan, part-finance, implement, monitor and maintain sustainable and socially inclusive projects.
Mr Mojekwu, said also, that the projects tended to cover feeder roads: construction and rehabilitation, culverts, bridges, drifts, stock routes, boreholes (with or without pumps); Health facilities; Potable water supply facilities; rural electrification; construction and rehabilitation of primary and secondary schools, dormitory blocks and classrooms, staff quarters, laboratories, ventilated improved pit (VIP) toilets; TV viewing centers; civic centers; water transportation among others.
Even so, he said over seventy-eight communities have benefitted from these projects and more are still under review and evaluation.
The ANCSDA Boss, however advised that LGAs in Anambra State and other community development stakeholders should see to the progress of these projects through synergy with the agency.
In his remark during the event the MD National Light, Mr Chuka Nnabuife, commended the Agency for efforts to reduce poverty to its barest minimum and hoped that Ndi Anambra would embrace the development by ensuring partnership with the Agency.
