Ezi Awka Youths Embark on Road Maintenance

EziAwka youths had recently mobilized themselves to patch the bad portion In a quest to support the Anambra State Government on road construction and maintenance, the Youths of EziAwkaCommunity in Awka South LGA, Anambra State, have mobilized themselvesto fix dilapidated roads in their area by patching and filing up pot holes in the seven villages making up the community. The roads were damageddue to heavy rains.

Fides gathered that the youths raised funds from amongst themselves to purchase sand, stones and asphalt to for the project.

The patching exercise which started last Thursday from Ikolo House, Umudioka, to Ukwuorji, Umuogwali, among others, had youths in their numbers with working tools patching most of the dilapidated roads.

Speaking during an interview with Fides, the Youth Leader, Mr. Obinna Charles Ijomah, said they had decided not to leave the work of road maintenance to government alone, but to contribute their quota as youths who understood the need to help in nation building.

He recalled that of Zik Avenue, Awka, noting their readiness to do more where necessary.

He urged youths to rise to their responsibilities, shun all negative practices and focus their thoughts and energy towards making the state better.

For his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Youth Mobilization, Hon. Ossy Onuko, commended the youths for embarking on what he described as a creative mission of ensuring good roads.

He noted that the leadership of the youths in EziAwka had done tremendously well to put most of the worn not roads in the community in good shape even without government funding.

Hon. Onuko advised youths in other communities to emulate the gesture of EziAwka youths by replicating it in their various communities.
