A native of Orodo in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State, Sebastian Princewill Chiagozie, is suffering from a very deteriorating ailment, diagnosed to be Steven Johnson Syndrome, caused by a severe reaction to drugs.
Sebastian explained recently that the ailment began after he contracted an Apolo (conjunctivitis) and went for treatment at one of the eye clinics in Owerri where he was given a drug which he claimed to be ciprofloxacin. He afterwards developed a reaction all over his body which affected his two eyes.
Following the incident, he had visited Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku Owerri, where he was diagnosed of severe reactions to the drugs. Since then, Sebastian said he had visited so many other hospitals, including F.M.C. Owerri, General Hospital Umuguma; Eye Foundation Clinic, Ikeja; Mercury Eye Hospital, Oshodi, and many others, to no avail.
He said that the hospitals did all in their power to help his situation but to no avail. Then he was later referred to India for a surgical procedure called keratoprostesis, which, according to the doctors, would assure Sebastian 85 to 90% chances of having his sight corrected.
He however, pleads with well-meaning Nigerians to help conquer his greatest challenge which was the amount needed for his traveling expenses to India for the surgery, which is estimated in US dollars. He had tried contacting some foundations and his state government without success.’ I dropped out of school in primary 5 due to this problem. I have gotten my international passport ready but my problem is the money mentioned.
